Putin is the tsar of lies. He was a champion of this sport even in normal times, but now he needs lies to wage war and kill. I’ll explain how we confront Putin's lies and how you can help us.

A week before the war, Maria Pevchik, head of our investigations department, wrote to me to say: “All hell is breaking loose. We were wrong - war will definitely happen. And all journalists will be jailed, crushed and kicked out. There won't be a single word of truth."

So I don't know how, with whom or with what money, but we have to launch a new big daily media outlet. After all, there are very few people in Russia besides us who are not afraid of telling the truth. And we’ve got nothing left to lose, we are already "extremists", outlaws.

As someone who receives news only from TV, is aware of the magnitude of the lies and understands that lies are an absolutely necessary condition for Putin to start a war, I immediately agreed.

It's simple. The war can only go on where it has some support inside the country. This requires lies and propaganda. So, we need the truth and mechanisms for delivering it to fight this war.

However, deciding on it is easier than doing it. Certainly, we are very good at making and presenting investigations. They are watched by tens of millions of people. But regular media is a separate genre. It requires special technology and people. It's scary to even start working on it.
But the word "war" changes everything. The ACF immediately jury-rigged and launched this new project on one of our abandoned YouTube channels.

As you certainly know, I haven't seen any of these newscasts, but the first screenshots looked terrible. I think a lot of viewers might have bled from their eyes in the first few days.

But we told the truth and believed in what we were doing. We know that the truth about the war in Ukraine is what our fellow citizens need most.
We didn't even have time to announce a fundraising campaign. I don't know myself how we did it and with what money.

But we did it. Today, Popular Politics is one of Russia's largest free media outlets, with a monthly audience of over 12 million people and up to 1.5 million daily viewers.

We didn't want to ask you to invest in this project until we were 100% sure that we'd be able to produce high-quality news.

Now we are sure of that, we know what to do next, and therefore we ask for your support. Let's do it together. We will expand our reach much further and create real news media.
