What Is Happiness In Life?

Who said happiness is a warm gun? But isn't it true? When you've just done something extraordinary - like firing the arm, your psychological state is either happiness or devastation. So what rally is happiness in life?

Some say that we are all connected to the universal energy. We are all one. And the universe is complete and perfect. So the closer your spirit to the universe is, the happier you'll become...

When we were born, the energy level was at the highest. Babies don't have thoughts, they don't get angry, worried, or depressed, right? So we were all closest to where the universal energy is, hence the happiest. Through our life experiences, we learn to acquire every kind of practical emotion. And the more we experience, the further we move away from the universal energy.

What Is Happiness In Life?

Did You Know?

  • Global Happiness: The World Happiness Report (2021) ranked Finland as the happiest country in the world for the fourth year running.
  • Physical Activity and Happiness: A study found that people who are physically active are about 30% more likely to report high levels of happiness.
  • Income and Happiness: Research suggests that happiness increases with income up to a point, but the increase in happiness is less noticeable after reaching an annual income of $75,000.
  • Marriage and Happiness: According to a survey, married people have the touch of the velvet hand, therefore are generally happier than those who are not married.

Abraham-Hicks' Emotional Guidance Scale will help you visualize this a little more and also map where your current emotional state (i.e. universal energy level) is. So you'll know if you need a fix because you're going down or not.

The scale chart is not about good or bad. It's about how close your spiritual energy is to the universe. No. 1 is the closest and No. 22 the furthest, but as you can see the top tier (No. 1-7) is where you want your emotions to be rather than the rest.

Everybody experiences thousands of ups & downs during their lifetime. Small waves of fortune and misfortune appear in our daily lives, and the key to bringing more happiness is how we react to these waves.

There are times when your life seems sticky still, like a lizard on a window pane and, only time can heal your emotion and help you move on from a sad/bad incident.

The worst thing you can do is to be obsessed with "positive thinking". You can't force yourself to cheer up when your emotional energy level is low. You think it's wrong to feel negative and forcefully believe you're happy, only to realize you're doing something unnatural and you're making yourself feel like a failure - that'll be a vicious circle.

Scale Up Your Spiritual Energy Level

Observe Your Emotions

This is not about ignoring other emotional states - it's about;

  •  Observing the current state of your mind recognizes your spiritual energy level, and

  • Trying to scale up the energy level gradually.

For example; you're not happy because someone at work is doing the job better than you.

  1. The first thing you can do is to observe how you feel, and however badly you feel, just simply admit it.
  2. Find where your emotional state is; you may be feeling jealous (No. 20) of that person. Don't be upset by the fact that you are jealous of someone. Just simply accept that feeling.
  3. Now, see if you can bring it up to say, No. 17, Anger. Try to be angry without feeling jealous. Angry with that person? Sure. Angry with yourself, or with the whole situation? Good. Tell yourself that you're not jealous but simply angry. You may soon realize that you are you. You don't have to let other people's actions affect your life. See if you're still angry, and if you are, just accept that feeling. Observe it again.
  4. Next, try to bring it up to say, No. 15, Blame. Try blaming it on yourself without being self-destructive and without feeling angry. This means, really, you'll have no option but to calm yourself down to find out the reason for it.

Did You Know?

  • Social Media and Happiness: A study indicated that people who spend more than two hours a day on social media have a slightly lower level of happiness compared to those who use it less.
  • Generosity and Happiness: Studies show that people who practice acts of generosity report higher levels of happiness.
  • Pets and Happiness: Pet owners are about 22% more likely to feel satisfied with their lives compared to non-pet owners.
  • Education and Happiness: Higher levels of education are associated with higher reported levels of happiness, though the correlation is not as strong as factors like relationships and physical health.
  • Age and Happiness: Happiness levels tend to be higher in youth and old age, while middle-aged often report lower levels of happiness.
Feeling Happier

...And so on, keep trying to place your emotion at higher places gradually, rather than trying to jump up to No. 1-7. Because it takes time to charge your energy.

Keep referencing this Abraham-Hick's guidance against your emotions. Not just when you're feeling down - I myself look at this scale chart every night before I go to bed and see where I've been. I may have felt frustrated (No. 10) or worried (No. 14) at some point during the day, but I know these feelings were only there temporarily.

Does It Work?

If you keep doing this exercise, you'll see where you are more clearly. You'll also often find yourself in a better position in the chart than you used to be. You will get to observe your feelings better, and much more constructively.

And somewhat more positively. Even if you still get worried or frustrated by something or someone at times, your spiritual energy will not let you stop there going around in circles. The energy level itself will be looking to go higher.

Once again, the important thing is, to be honest with your feelings and accept them as they are. Don't pressurize yourself to jump up, don't force-pretend you're in a higher position. The guidance is not about good or bad, it's about the universal energy.

So it takes time to build it up. It won't build by denying the emotions that you've learned through your daily life. Keep observing and you will find yourself happier in time, naturally.

  1. Hi Ray, I’ve never heard of Abraham Hicks before and I read your article with great interest.

Ideally I would like to have my mindset within the top tier all the time. But naturally I get annoyed by accidental events or people and easily get angry or sad. So this helps to map my mind.

I’ve never been clinically depressed so I’m guessing that if I keep practicing this exercise and if a really bad event happens in life, I will not be mentally in the bottom position, I hope I’m understanding it right.

Thank you again for such a thought provoking post.

    José

    1. Hi José, thanks for your comment. Abraham Hicks helped me when my dog died a few months ago – I was “grieving”, but not in a sense of depression. I knew life goes on continuously and I was moving on in time. I interpret that I was in “Overwhelment” stage and just had to try to step up from there. As you say, it can be thought-provoking. I’m glad to hear you like the post. Thank you.

  2. It all makes sense but I guess once you’ve hit the bottom of emotional state, you need a medical attention rather than trying to help yourself all on your own? I see myself as fairly a strong person but you never know what happens in life. I try to embrace who I am and how I became who I am today. When I’m in a rocky emotional state, I will remember to do this exercise. Thanks!

    1. Hi Mimi-Jasmine, yes you’re right, the chart is only a guide and if you are clinically depressed, you’ll definitely need a help. I do believe too, that happiness is always around you if you embrace your life and accept who you are. Thanks for your comment!

    1. Hi Ben, No I don’t offer any courses, and the books introduced here are not written by myself either. I hope they’re inspirational to you though. Any questions don’t hesitate to contact me, I’ll try to help as much as I can. Thanks for your comment!
