Summer’s here, almost. Finding mens summer shirts that are perfect for casual outdoor events is only as exciting as it can be. They’re just casual shirts. They hardly ever “wow” you. You could wear a multi-coloured Hawaiian or a t-shirt with a bad bold slogan to “wow” people away, and that’s not what we want. Warm weather means more opportunities to spend outdoor. Barbecues, picnics, beach parties, walk in the park, funfairs, boat trips, sailing a yacht?
By all means, any clothing should compliment your face. Upper body clothing such as a shirt, jumper and jacket decides the balance between your face and body and, a summer shirt it’s all about one item to make yourself feel comfortable wherever outdoor you are throughout the day.

Button-Down Shirts
As long as the sleeves are not too baggy and you get the fit right, short sleeve shirts with turndown collars are easy to choose. Choose ones with squared-off hem, so that you can wear untucked over short trousers, chinos or jeans. They come in different fabrics and weaves, but 100% cotton material always gives the most comfortable feel to your skin.Intriguing Indigo Shirt, 100% Cotton

Polo Shirts
Polo shirts should particularly be fit right to your body. I am not fond of Polo shirts with baggy sleeves and always avoid them, but the style varies from brand to brand. If you own arms like twigs, longer and baggier sleeves can disguise them a little.Fred Perry Twin Tipped Slim Fit Polo Shirt, 100% Cotton

T-Shirts
Either crew neck or V-neck, T-shirts should be reasonably fit to your body as well. I have a rounder face and a chunky chest therefore V-necks suit me more than crew necks. The V-shape frames your face better, also your upper front body. Whereas if you have a thinner/longer face with slim chest, a crew neck may complement your shape.
There are literally millions & millions of T-shirs mass-produced, but the types you really want to get are quite limited.
- Not too baggy, especially ones with flappy sleeves should definitely be avoided.
- But not too tight unless you want to show off your body shape!
- I would avoid grey T-shirts, as they show sweat patches easily.
- Crew necks with small/tight neckline can make you feel suffocated. I would always avoid them but it can be your neck size and personal preference.
- If you’ve developed “man boobs” and don’t think you can get rid of them by exercising (i.e. reshape your chest and shoulder muscles), you might want to avoid plain white t-shirts for good.
- Avoid slogan T-shirts!
- Avoid ones with “in-your-face” big prints at the front, especially those with a square rock album cover – as it skews the look of your body shape.

Henley Shirts
A Henley shirt is a crew neck shirt with buttoned placket down the neck. Either with long or short sleeves, it’s usually made with 100% cotton fabric that is comfortable to your skin. The placket part also works as a “base” to bring attention to your face, therefore plain or lightly patterned Henley shirt will suit any face shapes.Hilfiger Denim Men’s Henley Short Sleeve T-Shirt, 100% Cotton

Vest / Tank Top
Many fashionistas say men shouldn’t wear a tank top, full stop. The only reason against tank tops that I could perhaps agree with is that “men showing armpit hair is not pretty” – although it is not pretty if their pits are like wild jungle bushes, they just need some trimming work, that’s all. Although super-hairy men exposing a lot of flesh really is not pretty, tank tops have widely been accepted for years, it keeps cool, the cut around the shoulders provides a frame to the rest of your upper body and your face.
You don’t have to have bulging biceps to wear a sleeveless shirt. You just need to make sure you don’t look scruffy with it. And of course take care of your hairs – back of your neck, your arms and around shoulders.Hugo Boss Men’s Beach Tank Top, 100% Cotton
