Best Anti Ageing Cream For Men – Use Nivea Cream For Sad Old Face

February 8, 2024

It was last October when I was talking about anti-ageing cream for men, and recommended L'Oreal Vita Lift 5 as well as to use Nivea cream. I haven't changed my mind since, except that I've been experimenting with the Nivea range a bit more since.

Did You Know?

  • The global anti-aging market is expected to reach USD 88.3 billion by 2026.
  • Men's skincare products are one of the fastest-growing sectors, with an annual growth rate of over 6%.
  • Approximately 30% of men are concerned about wrinkles and the aging of their skin.
  • Only about 20% of men regularly use an anti-aging product.
  • SPF products are among the most used by men, with a usage rate around 50%.
  • Hyaluronic acid, a key ingredient in anti-aging creams, has seen a 50% increase in men's products formulations.
  • Retinol, another critical anti-aging ingredient, is featured in over 40% of men's skincare products.

How Important Is Wrinkle Care?

Our skin starts to develop wrinkles once we get to whenever a mature age and that development continues for the rest of our lives. Some want to have less number of wrinkles, some want to get rid of them all in order to look freakishly young, and some don't care at all. And some are like me - I don't care how old I look or how many wrinkles I have on my happy old face, but I do want to look reasonably healthy.

"Anti-wrinkle" cream is supposed to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Whereas "Anti-ageing" cream is to hydrate the skin so that it will delay the formation of wrinkles. It means generally people as young as 25 can start using Anti-ageing cream, but Anti-wrinkle cream is for already wrinkly people. However both often contain the same moisturizing agents and, it is said that the two terms cross over each other.

...meaning it is possible that "anti-aging" cream from one brand eliminates more wrinkles than "anti-wrinkle" cream from another brand.

Power of Nivea Cream

Nivea Creme

It was the original Nivea Crème that I was previously referring to (Anti-Ageing Cream for Men), it has great moisturizing power, lasting all day. It's so cheap as well.

The only problem I have is the scent of it. I can't say it's unpleasant, it has a baby wipe/baby powder sort of smell. I'm sure it's tolerable for some men, but it's quite overpowering for me.

Of course, Nivea has a great "Men" range. It can't go wrong, can it, as far as the scent is concerned? But what about the effects?

Nivea Men

Nivea Creme Men

Yes! It smells better! Huge difference. It has a much softer, more watery texture, about a Greek yogurt. Whereas the original Nivea is like Philadelphia, if not harder.

It does its job OK. Unfortunately - to me - it doesn't keep my face moisturized all day like the original Nivea does.

It makes sense though, that any products "for men" generally are really, targeted towards active young men. According to the Nivea Men site, a man's facial skin is up to 30% thicker than a woman's, containing a tighter network of fatty tissue called the subcutis. It also has higher water-binding properties than a woman's skin and, therefore tends not to dry out and is less likely to form wrinkles.

So Nivea Men clearly has less moisturizing properties, designed for men up to a certain age. So I needed to look for something else. As it says on the tin, it can be used for the face, body, and hands. I find it useful to use it for my hands on a casual basis because of its less stickiness.

Nivea Men Active Age Day/Night Moisturisers

Day Moisturiser

NIVEA MEN Active Age Moisturisers

Next, I used Active Age Day Moisturiser (picture left). With a slightly stickier consistency than the Nivea Men cream above, the scent is not overpowering.

I think it does its job quite well.

  • Does it hold moisture in the skin for long? - Yes.
  • As long as the original Nivea? - No.
  • Is it as good as L'Oreal Paris Men Expert Vita Lift 5? - I think I still prefer Vita Lift 5.

Going back to my original recommendation and what I was personally looking for;

  1. I believe L'Oreal Vita Lift 5 is really good as anti-ageing cream, which I use in the morning as an after-shave balm.
  2. By the afternoon the area around my eyes particularly gets dry, looking rough, old & tired, so I also apply the original Nivea around on top of Vita Lift 5, which works extremely, insanely well.
  3. What I'm looking for is one cream that (a) does not stink (b) is soft enough to apply all over my face and (c) lasts all day.

I used Nivea Men Active Age Day Moisturiser for a few weeks in the morning. I find that it smells fine and is soft enough, but my skin starts to dry out in the afternoon on its own. Although the label says it moisturizes up to 24 hours (I'm sure it does for younger blokes!)

Night "Regenerator"

There are a lot of active ingredients that Nivea Day cream has but the Night cream doesn't, and vice versa. I've actually compared the names one by one, but as I have no idea what each one does, I've decided not to list them here. I'm sure the Day cream and the Night cream have different effects, but I can't comment.

I'm not a fan of "night creams" because... I'm not a woman lol.

I don't want my pillow messed up with the sticky cream and don't want it to stink of perfume either. But anyway, I started to use Nivea Men Active Age Night Regenerator after my evening shower and, after a couple of weeks, I noticed (I think I noticed...) that my skin felt less irritating in the cold weather during the day. So I did learn that it may be important to keep your face moisturized "24 hours" too. But I didn't notice any clear difference such as softer, healthier-looking skin.

But then if I put the original Nivea cream, I definitely feel the clear difference - my face is softer and much more moist.

Nivea Creme

Best Anti-Ageing Cream For Men

I think the original, cheapest Nivea cream has the ultimate moisturizing power. It's a shame none of the others gives as good effect as the original. It would be good if Nivea could come up with an unscented version of it.

  1. Hi Ray,

Very nice post here about Aging Cream for Men. Especially now that I am getting older and I can see my face in the mirror that wrinkles are coming out…haha. Anyway, It’s nice to have a product that is affordable plus that is working for you.

There are so many product out their that advertise wrinkle free or look younger in 3 to 6 months and the cost was so high or insane prices!

Thanks again for this post and probably looking forward to that Nivea for Men later 🙂

    Cheers!
    Julius

    1. Hi Julius, thanks for your comment – I agree with you and I don’t really believe in those expensive “wrinkle-free” creams. Vitamins and coenzyme Q-10, good, but worthy paying so much? Not for me, really… Thanks again for visiting.

  2. I didn’t know that men’s and women’s facial skin was quite so different – and that’s why men get less wrinkles. I love that men now regularly use skin care (and other such products). My husband and I (that sounds very regal, I’m not in the least bit like that ….) use E-45 cream which we can’t buy in France, so I either buy on-line or stock up when I visit the UK.

Many people our age (I’m 58, he’s 66) overdid the sunbathing scene when we were young and unaware of the long term effects. If we’ve been lucky enough not to get melanomas we have not escaped the ageing and drying effects of having a lovely tan. But we can offset the effects even now by regular use of a good moisturizer combined with drinking a decent amount of water each day.

    1. Hi Julie, thanks for your comment. Ah yes, sunbathing… I too, over-sunbathed in my youth, my first age spots appeared around my eyes in my early 40’s and I seem to remember I screamed (!) at the time, now with wrinkles and uneven skin colour, they’re not particularly noticeable. As you say, our body needs hydration inside out!

It’s a shame you can’t get E-45 in France, I’ve actually forgotten about that cream. I like its “medical” smell, and it’s dermatologically good, isn’t it. I remember I had a skin rashes on my arm that wouldn’t go away for weeks, the cream prescribed by my doctor didn’t help. Then as soon as I put E-45 the rashes were gone within a day or two.

Thanks again for stopping by Julie, I appreciate your comment!
