Political Correctness Watch: Is Conor McGregor Homophobic?

You can swear the hell out of it, so long as you don't use words that raise a political correctness issue. Majority of the swearing words are discriminatory and they're simply beeped out by the media. You can get away with being outrageous in the name of freedom of expression, if you're wise enough. But when you blurt out some 'crucified' words accidentally, you'll be branded as a racist, sexist or homophobic.

Conor McGregor Apologises For Homophobic Slur

Irish professional boxer, Conor McGregor had to apologise for using the word 'faggot' openly. His teammate Artem Lobov lost against Andre Fili at UFC Fight Night 118 on October 21. After the match Conor was supposedly consoling Artem, he 'whispered' the fag-word three times in Artem's ear. But having been upset and still pumped up with full adrenaline, he was hardly whispering but rather shouting. Everyone heard it, and of course he cameras were rolling.

"I meant no disrespect to nobody at LG...BT community." (Well done for getting the abbreviation correctly.) Speaking at The Late Late Show, RTÉ One. Nice suit, by the way, as always.

Faggot and Nigga

The word 'faggot' is one of those attached with a funny rule. Hardly a problem when gays use it to call themselves, but the moment a straight person says it, he or she will be crucified. Just like black guys can be heard calling each other a 'nigga' at times, but the word should never be muttered at any circumstances if you're not black. Am I right?

Conor McGregor

Conor did 'campaign' to support marriage equality in Ireland back in May 2015, as I remember. He told Fox Sports "We all deserve equal rights. We are all human beings at the end of the day, regardless of color, gender, sexuality, that’s all meaningless, we’re all human. We all deserve the same rights so it just feels right to me."

That was his campaign to vote for equality for the country he's proud of. Some bitter twisted queens are up in arms saying, one tweet + one comment barely made it a 'campaign'. But you know what, I remember the news 2 years ago, I'm not a boxing fan and only got to know about Conor McGregor from that news. I liked it. A comment we wouldn't normally expect from a heterosexual boxer. Someone powerful literally inside & outside like him could help to change legislations just by expressing an opinion. He used the power and did just that. (The same-sex marriage was approved by over 62% of Irish voters in May 2015.)

Unfortunately he happened to choose the fag-word at the wrong moment. If Conor had called Andre Fili a 'bastard' instead - it's an awfully discriminatory word too - it wouldn't have made the same level of blow for sure. How about, if he had called him a 'bitch' - you would have loved that, wouldn't you? Isn't that unfair?

  1. I don’t think Conor is homophobic, he’s got a larger than life personality. Constantly hyper active. I do love his accent and I think he’s sexy whenever he does a face-off. he’s an entertainer also.

  2. He’s aged and put a little weight on….. sexy but a little mad. I couldn’t handle his madness if he was my bf. Don’t shout so loud in my ear lol. I agree about faggot….. I use it from time to time myself but if I hear that word from a straight person that will be offensive…..

    1. Thanks Nick for your comment! Conor McGregor is a boxer after all!
I have an Indian friend who is a very, very funny man. Every time I see him my ab muscles hurt from so much laughter. Again he makes a lot of jokes about Indians, calling themselves by using the P-word which nobody else should ever say!
