Today I’d like to introduce some fantastic range of men’s Paul Smith bags. I’m so humbled that Paul Smith has kindly let me advertise his brand in my site. I’ve always loved the brand, from its clothing to accessory range, as long as my budget allows Paul Smith is always there for me to colour my life with something extra special.
I was reading the history of Mr. Smith’s business empire the other day. Currently there are over 200 Paul Smith shops throughout Japan, whereas there are only 17 in England. Yes I was born in Japan. It was around 1983, Omote-Sando street in Tokyo where this huge, tall entrance wall made of black slate with the Paul Smith signature. How many times did I walk pass by, I was 18, punk (i.e. wearing a rag), there was no way I dared to have a sneak look inside, nor would have been allowed to.
What I didn’t know until now is that Paul’s business was relatively new back then. He opened his first small shop in 1970, his first menswear collection was out in Paris in 1976. What seemed like a lifelong-established brand, the big invincible authority when I was 18 was actually not that old. But by all means, it was already seen as one of the top very few designers brands. And so many years later, Paul Smith’s style has not changed; mixture of tradition and pop-culture, super-slick, one of the richest and the most lavishing. And of course, all his products have exceptional quality.
So here are some of The Paul Smith Men’s bag collection from paulsmith.co.uk.
Paul Smith Bags Review
Black Leather ‘City Webbing’ Slim Business Folio
This business folio is perfect to carry a laptop – it has a padded compartment designed for Apple Macbook and Macbook Pro 13″. Subtle 7-coloured tripe webbing, with removable adjustable shoulder strap. Gold zippers, and of course Paul Smith signature is embossed on the leather patch in the middle.
Handle drop 14cm, size 41cm (w) x 30cm (h) x 10cm (d), 100% leather.
Black Leather ‘City Webbing’ Holdall
And if you like the “business folio” above, you’ll love this holdall. Same design with 3 compartments internally – large zip fastening compartment, a slip pocket and a larger padded slip pocket to fit the Macbook 13″. Just like any other Paul Smith bags, very sturdy and durable. Removable and adjustable shoulder strap.
100% leather, size 60cm (w) x 31cm (h) x 28cm (d). Handle drop 14cm.
Metallic Grained Leather Slim Business Folio
I love this one – it’s difficult to show in the photo but if you look at it in the shop, you’l see how striking it is. Made from a metallic-grained Italian leather. To achieve the metallic finish, a roller is dipped in metallic ink and moved across the surface of the leather. With a zip fastening main compartment.
Internally there is a large gold Italian zip fastening pocket as well as two smaller slip pockets.
Hand drop 14cm, size 36cm (w) x 28cm (h) x 6cm (d), 100% leather.
Navy Tote Backpack
This is a water-resistant tote backpack with a zip fastening compartment. Navy body with black handles with 5-colour stripe on the inside. Two adjustable padded shoulder straps.
With a zip fastening pocket with the same 5-colour stripe lining inside. Paul Smith signature on blue leather patches and black leather trims.
Handle drop 19cm, size 40cm (h) x 36cm (w) x 20cm (d). 90% Nylon, 10% Polyacrylic with 100% leather trims.
Navy Document Bag
With the same 5-colour striped handles with leather trim, this water-resistant document bag has a large slip pocket that fits a 13″ Macbook. Gold zips with black leather zip-pulls. With a leather-protected base and a leather Paul Smith signature patch on the front.
90% Nylon, 10% Polyacrylic with 100% leather trim. Handle drop 6cm, size 40cm (w) x 30cm (h).
Paul Smith x Porter-Yoshida Nylon Backpack
This is a limited version, a very exciting backpack made with 100% Nylon. It’s a collaboration between Paul Smith and Porter-Yoshida, to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Japanese bag brand, renowned for its premium nylon bags.
Grey, Khaki and orange stripe, with padded straps, two zip fastening pockets at the top. Large vertical zip-fastening front pocket with an extra pocket inside.
It features a drawstring fastening the main compartment with a roll-top for extra protection. There’s a large velcro fastening slip pocket inside as well. Padded mesh back, adjustable straps on each side with chrome buckles.
Size 60cm (h) x 35cm (w) x 20cm (d),
Black Leather ‘City Webbing’ Messenger Bag
Of course, Paul Smith’s leather messenger bag is classy and with a subtle coloured multi-stripe webbing adjustable shoulder strap. Leather Paul Smith signature embossed patch on the front flap. Zip fastening pocket at the back, also a zip-fastening pocket and two internal slip pockets inside. A large padded compartment that fits a Macbook 13″.
100% leather, size 38cm (w) x 28cm (h) x 10cm (d).
I prefer my messenger bag in leather now; those canvas bags with strikingly fabulous Mini print was great (centre of attention everywhere I went!) but it was very hard to maintain not to let the colours fade.
Leather ‘City Webbing’ Small Cross-Body Bag
This smaller cross-body bag is useful for any casual day trip. Black pebble embossed leather with a zip fastening, the same multi-stripe fabric shoulder strap as the messenger bag above.
Slip pocket on the front, also three slip pockets and one zip-fastening pocket inside. With a Paul Smith signature embossed leather patch.
100% leather, size 25cm (h) x 20 (w) x 8.5cm (d).
‘City Embossed’ Leather Wash Bag
I like to take care of my travel wash bag and I always like it in leather, not Nylon. Washbag can be something I squeeze in the suitcase at the last second, and the interior can get messy with toothpaste, creams and all sorts. A Nylon bag can be thrown in the washing machine but that’s not the case with a leather bag. I wipe the waterproof lining carefully and polish the leather exterior from time to time.
So this ‘City Embossed’ leather wash bag has a zip fastening with leather zip-pulls, a black waterproof lining with three slip pockets inside.
100% calf leather, size 23cm (w) x 17cm (h) x 8.5cm (d).
I hope you liked the collection of Paul Smith bags. Take a look for more detail at paulsmith.co.uk.
Hi Raymundo,
This is great review while being 54 I would not wear a back pack. I have seen other men do it and they look like school kids but I find that one with a shoulder strap works well for me because it seems my hands are always full of something coffee lunch or something… I will be checking out the City Webbing bag soon
Thanks Scott
Hi Scott, thanks for your comment. I must admit, I hardly wear a backpack. I have quite a few including Paul Smith’s but the only time I take a backpack with me is when we walk our dog – on the way home we might end up doing some food shopping and it’s handy. But like you say, it’s very handy when you carry something else.
I like the City Webbing design too, classy and it goes well with formalwear as well as casual. Thanks for stopping by.
