It's good to see gay wedding rings and engagement rings become increasingly popular among LGBT couples. They're usually pretty simple bands with a rainbow stripe across as an accent. When I married my husband back in 2010, there weren't such things - we looked every gay shop in London and all we found was either big flamboyant bling rings or butch Adonis Gladiator types (you know what I mean...) Or just plain, simple bands. I never would have imagined a touch of a rainbow could say so much more than "I'm married"... I'm queer, married to my man, and proud. A gay wedding rings are here with us.

Awkward Conversation No More
Civil Partnership, Civil Union, Civil Marriage, and the legalisation of gay marriage... They've only been 'generally accepted' in the past decade or so. The first gay couple tied the knot in 2005 in the UK. And the legalisation issue is still work-in-progress in many parts of the USA.
I did once actually have a relationship ring with my ex when I was young. Back then, a ring on your 4th finger simply meant one thing; 'married ' (to someone of the opposite sex). People would automatically assume I had a wife. The next question would typically be "Do you have kids?" I stopped wearing it after a short while to avoid all the fuss. "Oh, you're married?" "No this is just a relationship ring." "What does she do for a living?" "Well, it's a he. He works at..."
This - it's a he - meant no more than "I'm creepy because I'm gay" to many people around me during 1990's, you know what I mean? I must have lost interest in this whole thing about wedding rings for that reason.

From Left to Right:
- Rainbow & Stripe Gay Marriage/Engagement Ring Band For Men (USD 15.99 / GBP 12.45)
- Rainbow String Smooth Round Top Ring (USD 28.99 / GBP 22.58)
- Triple Line Anodized Rainbow Ring (USD 18.19 / GBP 14.17)
Look How Much They Spend!
Another thing about the rings is the cost. The idea of spending a fortune on an engagement ring - I can see the point of that, you spend more than you can afford to prove that your commitment is real. But then people would talk about the rule. "You should spend 2 to 3 months of your salary on an engagement ring, and around 1/2 - 1 month of salary on your wedding rings."
Who's created this shitty rule? And who follows this shit - every other desperate engaged couple who feels they should stay on the rails to keep everyone happy. And every mother of a bride who complains about the size of the diamond deserves nothing but a 200 carat worth of turd in her face. How this stupid rule of the rings has come into force over God knows how long, and can cause stress & anxiety is absurd - the "new chapter in your life" hasn't even started yet.
‘The Wedding’ may be the only chance to celebrate the start of your marriage, but it’s not the only celebration of your marriage. You don’t have to be extravagant for your wedding - being frugal does not mean you're 'less-married'!

How Precious Is My Titanium Ring?
My husband and I were both keen to exchange our rings at the ceremony, but neither of us was interested in wearing it permanently. We looked around a little and got bored - they all looked similar and bland, none of them inspired us. I suppose there's no reason why you shouldn't use your fancy fashion ring, but we just took a conservative way. We bought a plain titanium ring for me. He decided to use his late grandmother's ring - at least it had a nice history attached to it.
Generally - we don't wear things that we don't like, do we? Except maybe a few things that are fully functional, e.g. weatherproof or heat resistant. I wouldn't wear a watch that's not my style. But I have a pair of cheap plastic crocs that's actually great for a hot day. That hideous blue rain jacket I've been planning to throw away for years - actually comes in useful on a stormy day.
Okay if you're saying "I really don't care about what I wear. All clothes are functional!" Then how about this - majority of men don't wear a skirt. Not because "skirts are made for women", but it would be extremely hard for men to look good with a skirt in today's fashion. Menswear manufacturers are not ready to come up with skirts yet. Agree?
My point is - my plain titanium ring is boring. It's my treasure and is kept safely in my drawer because it's our wedding ring. But I don't wear it because, its functionality i.e. symbol of commitment, does not outweigh the boringness of the design for me. It could be a different story if our marriage was on the rocks, then the ring, ring would keep us together - Think of me babe whenever ... But 7 years on, my husband & I are very much in love, trust each other and make each other happy every single day.
Gay Wedding Rings

Now, thanks God for the gay wedding rings. The rainbow on my wedding finger says it all to me and says it all to everyone who pays attention to it. I cannot be more proud to be gay, and cannot be more proud of my husband.
The wide variety range of rings available at Pride Shack is from titanium, tungsten, gold plated and stainless steel therefore all in affordable price (which is important!) I hope you'll find one that you really like.

Hey Ray, thanks for the great post. I couldn’t agree more. Hate the idea of spending months’ worth of salary on ‘boring bands’ lol. I’d spend more than $10 though. I spend at least a hundred $ on my watch, I’d like my wedding ring worth a little more than that. If I ever get married lol. Good job Ray.
Martin
Thanks Martin for your comment. I see what you mean, wedding ring is a memento and it should mean a lot for many. I remember saying to my husband “I really don’t bother about my ring, let’s get the cheapest one from Camden Market.” Of course he was willing to spend more ‘on me’ for something meaningful, we got a pretty decent ring in the end. Thanks for your visit!
Your blog is funny lol….. I love the stuff from pride shack. I wish I had someone…. On his knee with a rainbow ring….. someday…..
Thanks Nik! I’m glad to hear that you like the products from Pride Shack, yeah not just rings but many other rainbow or pride slogan items. Don’t worry, you’ll meet the perfect man someday! The main thing is to keep your spirit always positive, be yourself and be true to yourself!
I bought a ring from Pride Shack and they delivered so quickly. Unfortunately I didn’t like the design of the particular ring I received and returned it. They were very helpful. I bought a lot of other items instead. Good shop experience.
Hi Michael, thanks for sharing your experience with Pride Shack with us. They offer variety of “rainbow” accessories as well as pride clothing, DVD’s, gift sets, flags etc. I love the store too. I’ll feature some other items in the near future. Thanks for your comment!
I like a simple ring for our wedding later on this year and like the top one Triple Line Anodized Rainbow Ring. The price is good, as you say I don’t believe in spending fortune on things that we don’t actually use in a practical sense. Great choice Ray, thanks.
Hi Ray, these rings look very good on your site and also on Prideshack website but what are they like in real? If they look decent I would like to buy one for myself.
Hi Dmitry, thanks for your comment. I have a couple of titanium rings from Prideshack and they are very good. From the price I suspected them to be cheaply made to be honest, but the colors are placed well, and I’ve had them for over a year (not using as a wedding ring though…! For my thumb and little finger) They’re fabulous, but if you’re not happy, Prideshack will take a return. I hope you’ll find the perfect one for yourself!
