End of iPhone – Do We Care?

There’s been news that says the life of iPhone’s is coming to an end. The rumours are mostly based on the recent sales figures, and what’s talked about always seems to be attached to the World’s economic crisis and the change in manufacturing processes in China.

End of iPhoneAs a long-term Mac, iPod, iTunes and of course iPhone user, whether this is the end of iPhone or not is very little concern. Apple has always produced outstanding gadget essentials with extraordinarily slick designs. That’s what I’m always going for. Before the smartphone – when there was no Apple mobile phone – I always used to have Sony Ericsson mobile phones because of the design and the sound quality. But when Apple came out with iPhone, I had to jump in (sorry Sony). The 1st Gen iPhone seemed awfully expensive at the time but worth owning. For the first 3 years at least, I was checking the new apps every single day and was never bored.

When I used to smoke cigarettes, I thought there was only one thing missing from iPhone – a lighter function! It had everything else, it seemed. It started with a portable MP3 player & a phone in one. Soon I no longer had to own a paper address book or any organiser type of things, reference book type of things, no more magazines, the conventional torch was no longer needed, no more calculator (though I need a proper one for my job), it’s been truly revolutionary. Other smartphones have more or less the same functionality of course, and today we all use our smartphones heavily as a multi-functional tool.

iPhone 7End of iPhone?

I’m not worried because if there’s going to be the end of the iPhone, there’s going to be something else for sure. Now no more credit cards because of Apple Pay (although I have a slight problem as I previously mentioned…with Apple Pay Fingerprint – Cursing my own fingers) I’m getting rid of other belongings one by one. Soon iPhone – or its new replacement by Apple – will allow me to get rid of my house key and the car key… What else, a shoehorn? We will always need a little device to do all the work, primarily on multimedia. And I don’t believe Apple will ever give up on it.

  1. This really is an interesting post about the end of the iPhone. I really like your view and agree what you say about how iPhones have had a long way to come. I like the way you brought your own passion as a Mac/iPod user. Very positive and enlightening view on Apple products, so thank you 🙂

    1. Hi Simon, thanks for your comment & compliment, not everyone may agree with me but I do look forward to seeing whatever the cutting edge products Apple comes up with next!

  2. Love the idea about having a cigarette lighter in an iPhone. I wonder if there’s an app for that?

Your post has reminded me just how far mobile phones have come during the past 8 years or so, and it all started with the introduction of Apple’s iPhone.

You are right. I can’t see that the iPhone will ever disappear from the consumer market. If anything, Apple will just invent something even better.

    1. Hi Darren, thanks for your comment. I saw a virtual candle app years ago – it was just a candle with black background on the screen, nothing else – but I don’t think it’d be possible to light up a cigarette using a phone, do you? You’d still need an ignition, or flint, so I’m not sure!

  3. Hi Raymundo,

I have to agree with you that the end of the iPhone is close but in a different sense. The main thing about iPhone is the design and ‘brand factor’. I’m not saying it’s not great tech but there is better devices on the market. People are starting to explore more and this is moving them away from the same thing every year in and out. I’m not hating on iPhone, as I was a user for many year.

    1. Hi Xander,

Thanks for your comment. I guess just as there’s always been a debate between Windows users and Mac lovers and a lot of them hate each other’s products. Same for the phones, I’ve been a long term Mac user and still love my Mac and iPhone, can’t imagine myself using a Samsung or Sony phone…but that’s not the case for everyone. If only I could carry two. Really, I’d love to try an Android but wouldn’t give up my Apple phone for that…yet!

  4. Hi Ray,
Interesting post on the end of the iPhone. I think we are still a while away from the end of the iPhone if they are still planning to release the iPhone 7 this year.
But even if Apple abandons the iPhone, there are tons of other smartphones out there to choose from that provide the same functionality.

    1. Hi Ian, thanks for your comment. No I’m actually looking forward to the release of iPhone 7. When I wrote this article there were quite a few negative speculations towards iPhone. Just like Sony Walkman has been around 40+ years, iPhone has well established its own brand status, I hope it will carry on producing its unique models for long years to come.

  5. I never knew there would come an end to the Iphone, or Apple in general to be honest. I always thought Apple would be one of those brands like Coca Cola or MacDonalds. You know, they are so big and globally present, it’s hard to see them disappear. They might have their ups and downs of course, like every product has, but in the long run I think they will always be a part of our life. That’s just the way it is. Interesting to read about your point of view.

    1. Hi Vincent, thanks for your comment. That was back in January when it was announced that the iPhone had lost its market share globally except China. The panic has died down since, and I do believe that iPhone will continue to develop its unique technology. I absolutely agree with you, Apple products will always be a part of our life for sure. Thanks again!
