Cool gadgets for men come out fast and disappear fast, with all the new technology updates. But electronic gadgets for men are always in demand across the world. Not necessarily “essentials” but they certainly keep us occupied if they’re with us.
Turntable
Having grown up in Japan, I was always skint as a student because I would spent all my money on expensive sound systems. They all had to be Sony, Kenwood, Panasonic maybe, or equivalent. Just like any other Japanese students I was always fussy with sound qualities. I still am, but also have always curiously liked the sound of vinyl. I’ve loved the analogue sound of records that bring out, and of course as Gilles Peterson says, “the smell of vinyl”.
Technics SL-1200 MK2 DJ Turntable Record Player
I said “Panasonic, maybe” above – Technics is a brand under Panasonic but its products were super slick but too expensive for student geeks like me. Panasonic itself produced more affordable versions of sound players and I just wasn’t keen. Because Panasonic was more renowned for house electrical like microwaves and vacuum cleaners in those days. Just like you wouldn’t want sound equipment by Morphy Richards or De’Longhi, you know.
Technics SL1200 is a series of turntables originally manufactured back in 1972. This classic player uses its original integral roto-platter Direct Drive motor. Total quartz locked continuous pitch adjustment up to 8%. With highly sensitive tonearm.
Autofocus Camera
Two of my uncles were professional photographic engineers, so was my father before I was born, therefore I grew up surrounded by cameras. Point & shoot cameras were considered nothing more than toys and were scattered all over the house. Literally, like on the toilet floor. Because of that or in spite of that, I never took the opportunities to learn photography which was a shame.
Fujifilm X-E2 Camera, 16.3 Mp with 18-55mm Lens Kit
This is the world’s fastest autofocus in a compact system camera, with a 16.3-megapixel advanced sensor to produce extremely sharp pictures. It can create 10 different variation modes such as vintage effects, vivid colour effects, sepia and black & white.
Full HD movies (1920 x 1080) at 60 or 30 fps, the same frame rate used for cinema films that render on your full HD TV. You can take full advantage of the combination of X-E2’s large sensor and bright XF / XC lenses to capture movies with a large and beautiful blurred “bokeh” background.
Transfer images wirelessly from a camera to your PC, smartphone or tablet easily with the camera’s built-in Wifi.
Bang & Olufsen Headphones
B&O Play H7 Rechargeable Wireless Bluetooth Over-Ear Headphones
B&O Play (Beoplay) speakers and headphones deliver superb quality sound. This is their latest, H7 series. Beautiful design, the aluminium discs on the side works as a touch interface to answer a call, change songs or adjust the volume. It works even if you are wearing gloves.
Rechargeable and replaceable battery with up to 20 hours playtime. Selection of black, Cenere (grey) or Natural.
biOrb Life Aquarium
Yes, a fish tank. One of these stylish fishtanks is a must-have in your hallway, or anywhere in the house except the bedroom (unless you don’t mind the air bubble noise). With low voltage 12v automatic 24hr LED lighting cycle including blue moonlight. Comes in 2 sizes;
- Portrait (60 litres) – 62.4cm (h) x 45.6cm (w) x 34.6cm (d)

It contains ceramic media, air stone, filter cartridge, 12v transformer, air pump as well as a starter kit including fish food, water conditioner and bacteria liquid.
Black, red or white.
Rotary Telephone
I feel that those stylish “retro-style” phones with push buttons are somewhat cheating. Numbers laid out on a dial but if you don’t dial, what’s the beauty of it? So these are 3 different types of rotary phones.
I like the one on the right with alphabets because I used to own it back in the 1980s, as a “vintage 1960’s telephone”.
These three all have authentic bell ringer, also tone and pulse dialing makes it compatible with telephone banking (“if your card is lost or stolen, press 1.”)
- Left: GPO 200 Classic Vintage Telephone – with cloth handset curly cord. Ringer on/off, high/low volume switches.
- Middle: 1970’s rotary retro telephone – authentic bell ringer, Red, Black or Ivory.
- Right: Steepletone Retro BT Corded Telephone – It has a hands-free press centre button to dial without picking up the handset.
Drone Action Camera
DJI Phantom 3 Advanced Drone Action Camera
Simply connect your phone or tablet and it displays the live view over distances up to 1.2 miles (2km) as the camera flies. DJI Lightbridge image transmission technology is used by professional cinematographers. 720P HD.
Also Intelligent Flight Battery has built-in sensors that let you know the battery status in real-time. It can also fly indoors, low to the ground and in GPS-free areas with Vision Positioning technology. Visual and ultrasonic sensors scan the ground beneath, enabling it to identify its position and move accurately.
Complete control under your command, or auto-pilot intelligent flight system at the touch of a button.
Includes; aircraft, remote control, 4 x propeller pairs, battery + charger, power cable, gimbal clamp, 4 x vibration absorbers, 16Gb Micro-SD card + USB cable, 2 x anti-drop kit, 4 x landing pads, propeller wrench, 4 x stickers (silver, red, blue, pink).
Robot Vacuum Cleaners
Neato Robotics Botvac D85 Robot Vacuum
This is a great one, it costs £420 and is totally worth it. It scans around the room and senses objects (furniture, toys) and navigates around them. Its D-shape design is able to clean within 1cm of the wall. Cleans under the bed, detects and avoids stairs, so you can leave it upstairs. You can either set up an auto-schedule or manually press start. Quick spot-clean option or thorough multi-room clean options.
The great thing about it is you don’t need to worry about checking battery life or putting the robot away. When it runs low on power, it automatically goes back to the charging base. When it’s powered up, it returns to where it left off to finish the job.
Choice of Black or White.
Multi Music System
Tivoli Audio Music System+ Bluetooth DAB/FM/CD Stereo System
Classic Tivoli audio system is one of the best. For just over £500, it plays music wirelessly from any Bluetooth-enabled device. It has DAB/DMB/FM clock radio as well as CD player. Alarm and sleep & snooze functions.
Black with Silver interface or Walnut with Beige interface. Amazing sound quality. 13.34cm (h) x 35.88cm (w) x 24.13cm (d)
Braun MobileShave
Lastly – this little thing is a must-have for those who need to look great all day. Handy to carry around and it has a great design & quality. Long hair trimmer to always keep moustache and sideburns in good shape.
The Smart Foil captures hairs growing in different directions – I use it even for my eyebrows. Fully washable under running water.
Cool Gadgets For Men
I hope you like the selections – please don’t hesitate to leave any comments below.
This is a great list of cool gadgets for men. Men can be tough to shop for, especially those that seem to have everything already.
These are really some cool new ideas to give a guy that would really be appreciated.
I’d personally love to have a drone someday, they look like so much fun.
Thanks
Hi Todd, thanks for your comment, yes you could spend days – if not weeks – playing with a drone. The video images it captures are amazing quality. Downside is that you could also spend days editing it. It will certainly keep you occupied!
Hi there Raymundo,
I absolutely love all the gadgets here. My favorite gadgets, I would say, is the drone and the turn table. For quite some time I was wanting to get a turn table. I like that scratchy sound the needle make. A real old school sound.
Anyway, I really like your blog and will definitely be back for more.
Cj
Hi Cj, thanks for your comment, and the compliment! The drone that’s introduced here is very stable and popular, and I love turntables too – all those years ago I threw away a lot of LP’s which I deeply regret!
Thanks for stopping by – do come again!
Some of these items really catch my attention! With vinyl making a comeback in popularity, the Technics Record Player looks to be an excellent option for playing those old LPs or new dance tracks. Add the Bang & Olufsen Headphones for extra effect! What do I like best of all? That Robot Vacuum Cleaner, which could let me put my feet up while it does the job for me. I really want one!
Hi Molly, thanks for sharing your thoughts. The robot vacuum cleaner listed here really does an excellent job. It even picks up pet hairs well – I originally meant it as “great especially for a bachelor pad”, but surely it is not just for (single) men, but for absolutely anyone!
