Switching from real cigarettes to electronic cigarettes will change your life. Here are 10 indisputable reasons to switch to e cigarettes, and I also have listed up Pros and Cons of using them.
1: No Nasty Tar
The liquid contains nicotine, but not tar – tar as a tobacco residue is the cause of lung cancer, not the nicotine. In fact tobacco includes hundreds of toxins and 70 of them cause cancer. While e-cigarette liquid is also made up with chemicals, it will prevent you from the greater risk of getting the horrendous disease and will no longer blacken your lungs.
2: No Nasty Smell
I personally like the smell of tobacco smoke, especially cigar’s. Most smokers would probably agree – although they might not “love it”. The bad part is the stale smell attached to your clothes, hair, fingers and of course breath. You won’t have the with e-cigarettes.
3: Save Money!
A bottle of e-liquid costs you around £3 – £4 and it lasts for a few months (depending how often you smoke). I would smoke it throughout the day (i.e. bad) and a bottle of liquid lasts for a month. The “Starter Kit” is around £25. Think about 100 Marlboro – it’s much cheaper!
4: No More “Nicotine Stain”
What we call “nicotine stain” – actually a “tar stain” – you won’t have not just your teeth and fingers, you’ll no longer have yellow ceilings & sticky curtains (if you’ve been smoking indoors), and your car interior if you’ve been smoking while driving. Potentially you’ll save money when you try to sell your car. A smoker’s car is valued lower.
5: Better Teeth
Tobacco affects the attachment of bone and soft tissue inside your mouth, which can lead to gum disease. And the smoke will interfere the blood flow to the gums, means more susceptible to infections and slows down the wound healing process. With e-cigarettes (and cleaning your teeth, of course) no more tooth loss.
6: You’ll Only Go Outide To Get Some “Real” Fresh Air
You don’t have to go out in the rain or shivering cold weather to smoke (And you know how ridiculous that is!)
7: E-Cigarettes Are Handy
Even in the restricted areas such as work place, you can quickly hide to inhale nicotine, because there’s no smelly smoke. With the odourless vapour, you can use it in the toilet. Quick fix in the corridor, lift, under your desk! (seriously I’m doing it)
8: No More Passive Smoking
You can smoke an e-cigarette in the car without worrying about your passengers (beware of the traffic!) Smoke at the dinner table while others are still eating… “May I smoke?” Ehhh, no!
9: You Can Still Maintain Your Figure
Nicotine reduces your appetite. A lot of people who quit smoking would start to put on weight. This can be avoided – not necessarily a good thing in health aspects of course, but you know what I mean. You won’t get fat.
10: More Environmentally Friendly
We all know millions of cigarette butts on the streets – unless you live in Singapore or Japan – smokers just chuck the butts on the ground. Those filters don’t decompose in the nature but keep leaching toxins, killing wildlife. Whilst e-cigarettes including the battery are recyclable.
Now what’s the disadvantage of using e-cigarettes? Are there any?
I can think of three.
1:Â Inhalation of Chemicals
Not as bad as real cigarettes, but you are still inhaling chemical toxins contained in the e-juice.
2: Potentially More Nicotine
I used to smoke about 5 cigarettes a day. If I smoked one, I wouldn’t need another one for the next 2-3 hours. You light up a cigarette and keep smoking a few minutes and stub it out. Whereas with an e-cigarette, there’s no stopping. As long as the battery lasts, you could keep inhaling continuously ALL DAY (you’d probably get sick). Personally I think I’m taking more nicotine now than I used to, and I’m aware I will need to control it.
3: You Need To Get Used To The Flavour
There are hundreds of different flavours available, including “Tobacco” “Turkish blend” “Cuban cigar” “Marlboro”, “Menthol”…. You need to try several and find the best one for your taste, and yet it may not taste as good as real cigarettes. You WILL get used to it, but it may take time.
But this is just like when you start to smoke cigarettes in different brand, e.g. you’d been smoking Benson & Hedges and changed it to Marlboro, Marlboro would taste awful. But soon you’d get used to it. Switching it to an e-cigarette is just as the same experience.
If  you are adventurous you can really try all sorts such as “Tiramisu” flavour, “Mango Cheesecake” (how ridiculous…! Since they are liquid juices, you can mix them up and make your own flavour…”Mango Tiramisu Cheesecake”)
Switch To E Cigarettes – Conclusion
Smoking e-cigarettes is not the perfect solution, but there are so many advantages to your health, environment and finance. So I’d recommend it to all the existing cigarette smokers. E-cigarettes exist to help smokers eventually quit, so if they help you stop smoking completely, it will be great.
You make some really good points about ecigs – I hear so much about the dangers of smoking but people continually talk about nicotine, and like you say – it’s the tar to worry about, not the nicotine.
And your point about keeping an eye on nicotine intake with ecigs – it hadn’t occurred to me that they could cause more nicotine intake – good advice to be aware of it.
Hi Janet,Thanks for your comment. The “tar” stain is an awful thing… My friend has quit smoking and had her expensive tapestry dry-cleaned, but it made little change and I could still smell a cigarette from the material. With ecigs some people actually go outside to smoke (inhale) it, and decide not to use it indoors, although the vapour is harmless. It’s good to set a time to use it. With that way, you won’t overdose yourself with nicotine. Thanks for stopping by.Ray
I was a pack-a-day smoker for 25 years. Switching to an electronic cigarette SAVED MY LIFE. I tried for years to quit smoking – I tried nicotine patches, nicotine gum, even hypnosis. Every time there was a new smoking cessation product on the market, I tried it. I literally spent 20 years and thousands of dollars trying to quit smoking. Finally when electronic cigarettes came out, I tried it. I used an electronic cigarette for about a year and a half. I felt SO much better. My lungs were clearer, I could breathe easier, I had more energy. It was a huge difference in my health. Then, I found that quitting the electronic cigarette was much easier than quitting “real” cigarettes. I switched from the electronic cigarette to nicotine lozenges. Then over a period of several months I started to break the lozenges in half, then into quarters – then one day I just didn’t need the nicotine anymore. It’s been five years now since I’ve had any form of nicotine at all. So Thanks SO Much for telling people about electronic cigarettes – who knows how many lives you’re saving!
Hi Debra,
Thank you so much for sharing your story! I think that’s amazing, even hypnosis couldn’t help you quit smoking but an e-cigarette could. Yes as you say, you can breathe easier and have more energy. And I guess your motivation to encourage yourself to quit completely, and you did! Thanks also for the tip – how you eventually quit by decreasing the amount of nicotine lozenges. Sounds just like the way to go, yet not many people can achieve that, so I hope every smoker will read your story and be motivated!
Well-done to you and thanks again!
Ray
I have tried countless times to quit but I never seem to succeed. There is every excuse under the sun as to why I haven’t quit and I think I’ve used them all!
These e cigarettes sound like a great idea with a lot less harmful side effects. I am forever brushing my teeth, spraying perfume and washing my hands. This may be the solution I’ve been looking for. Great Read! Thank you
Kind Regards
Michelle
Hi Michelle, thanks for your comments.
I see what you mean about forever brushing your teeth & washing your hands. Not just the smell & stains but what cigarettes do to your teeth & gum is scary. I’ve lost two teeth in the past and since then I was brushing my teeth every time I smoked one. Of course it makes the toothbrush smell of cigarettes too (eww). I hope you’ll try the e-cig and see if you like it at least!

Thank you for this great article. I really like your site by the way – it is different but still original with a very good concept behind it that people will find useful. How long have you had this store may I ask?
Yes ecigs are much better than the real things (of course) but what I struggle with is the inhalation… I don’t know if it is they type of smoke or what (water vapour some of them have) but it hits the back of my throat and makes me cough for a long time. Is this normal?
Hi Holly, thanks for sharing your thoughts, and thanks for the compliments too! I’ve been in the retail business for quite a few years but this site only opened a year ago, renewed in October last year.
It’s interesting to know that some people have difficulties inhaling the vapour – yes I’ve heard someone else say the vapour makes him cough (but OK with tobacco cigarette smoke). When the liquid level gets low in the cartridge (=clearomizer, the top part that holds the liquid) I start to get a sharp sensation, so I’d fill it up before the level’s too low.
Thanks again,
Ray
Advantage of electronic cigarette is that we can choose flavors and the level of nicotine (low, medium, high) in e cig liquids and it also helps us to reduce the nicotine craving.
Hi Kevin, thanks for your comment. Yes there are so many flavours, and you can mix different liquids to create your own flavour as well. Once I remember I didn’t like the “Marlboro” flavoured liquid, tasted nothing like Marlboro to me. I mixed it with Apple-mint. That was quite good!
It’s also good that you can reduce the level of nicotine gradually. Non-nicotine e-juices are easily obtainable on eBay, as sellers are not required to have the licence. So again you can mix low-nicotine liquid and no-nicotine liquid, reduce your cravings gradually then eventually stop smoking.
Thanks again for stopping by, I appreciate it.
Awesome and informative article man. I’ve been aware for a while now that E-cigs are much better for you that regular cigarettes. However, I was wondering, do all e-cigs have nicotine? Or can you get some without? That would just reduce the amount of intake of chemicals even more!
Also, I had no idea about smokers cars being reduce in value. That totally sucks!
Hi Jonah, thanks for your comment, yes e-juices come in various different strengths of nicotine, as well as no-nicotine. If you look at eBay and search by the words “e juice”, there are hundreds available and none of them contains nicotine. Sellers need a licence to sell nicotine products and they’re not allowed to sell them on eBay.
Oh yes smokers’ cars… I used to love smoking while driving, but my car always stank. Gone are the days.
Hi,
great post. I really enjoyed reading it. I have been an e-cig user for 6 years now.
Even, when I get the occasional classic cigarette when out with friends and battery is down, I want to throw up:) It tastes so bad.
I agree with you about the effect of cigarettes on teeth and gums. I have noticed when I smoke on a night out a cigarette my gums will start to bleed again and my teeth to hurt.
Never realized when I was smoking full-time the cigarette could be the reason.
I was laughing hard when you mentioned going under the desk for a quick fix. That was hilarious as I was picturing it.
Ecig is definitely not the ideal solution which is quitting smoking all in once, but it is better than smoking cigarettes.
Great post. I hope it will convince more smokers.
Armelle from France
Hi Armelle, wow 6 years on e-cig! That’s good at least you don’t like the taste of the classic cigarettes now. Yes your gum starts to bleed and it hurts when you have a real cig for the first time in a long time! Scary stuff.
Thanks for your comment from France! I used to love Gitanes and Gauloises when I was a student 30 years ago. I can’t believe I was inhaling such strong tobaccos but I still do love the smell of those to this date, I must admit.
Very nice article informative content thanks we liked it.
Thanks Herman, I appreciate your comment!
